A very un-festive message: Protest fathers target Ken Clarke's home with graffiti

  • 'New Fathers 4 Justice' campaigners say they wanted to deliver 'seasonal message from all alienated fathers'

By Nick Mcdermott

Last updated at 7:13 PM on 27th December 2011

As festive efforts go, it was hardly the most cheerful of messages to wake up to on Christmas Day.

Or the best spelt, for that matter. Justice Secretary Kenneth Clarke was again targeted by campaigners from protest group New Fathers 4 Justice yesterday morning.

Daubed across his white garage doors in big pink letters were the words ‘Fatherless Cristmas’ and six posters of young children crying.

Message: The words daubed across the garage of Kenneth Clarke, featuring six posters of crying children

A spokesman for the organisation said Mr Clarke’s home was targeted late on Christmas Eve to deliver ‘a seasonal message from all alienated fathers’.

Toys, a Santa suit, and a coffin were also crudely strewn across his lawn in West Bridgford, Nottinghamshire, ‘to signify the death of fatherhood’, according to the activists.

A statement released by the group said: ‘Christmas is a very emotional time for fathers denied access to their children.’

Nottinghamshire Police are investigating the criminal damage.

Targeted: Justice Secretary Ken Clarke

The demonstrators also planned to storm the pulpit at Canterbury Cathedral yesterday, but the action was cancelled after the Archbishop of Canterbury released a statement highlighting the significance of a father’s role in the life of a child.

It is not the first time the group has targeted Mr Clarke.

In July, an activist dressed as Batman tried to ‘arrest’ the Justice Secretary outside his Nottingham home, saying his actions were on behalf of all children stopped from seeing their fathers.

Last night Mr Clarke’s spokesman said: ‘There were some distasteful slogans painted on the garage doors of Mr Clarke’s home early on Christmas Day.

‘Once they were discovered, they were cleaned up and wiped off in a matter of an hour. We are not treating it a big deal.’ A police spokesman confirmed Mr Clarke’s constituency home was targeted by vandals. It is not known whether the Justice Secretary was there at the time.

The campaigners behind New Fathers 4 Justice are known for dressing up as superheroes while taking part in protests and claim fathers have been let down by the recent family law review which falls under Mr Clarke’s remit.

The group has also staged protests at the homes of high-profile Lib Dems. In October, five people spent three hours on the roof of Nick Clegg’s

Commandos4Justice: Marines join dads' rights battle by pulling stunt on Afghanistan front line

Troops in Afghanistan show their support for dads' rights group

MARINES on a dangerous mission in Afghanistan risk the wrath of their superiors by backing a new campaign to help estranged dads get better access to their kids.

Battle-hardened commandos deep in the heart of Taliban country in Helmand province brandished placards supporting New Fathers 4 Justice.

Taking up arms for the outspoken campaigners could result in a carpeting from top brass – especially as the troops were in action situations.

A senior military source told the Mirror: “This certainly is a hell of a stunt to pull during what is a fairly hazardous mission on the front line. The Taliban won’t have been very far away.

“These guys have had a very arduous tour of Afghanistan and have done a tremendous job but they could get a ticking off from a senior officer.

“They are entitled to their opinion up to a point but they are certainly not entitled to voice it while on a patrol.”

The heavily armed troops posed for the pictures shortly after leaving their base in the lawless district of Nahr-e Saraj.

A military member of the campaign group, which has broken away from Fathers4Justice, said: “Many in the Armed Forces are familiar with stories of bitter divorces because operational tours can put a huge strain on a relationship.”

They want to put pressure on David Cameron who they claim has refused to help estranged dads in their battle to get fair access to their children.

The PM has also alienated many troops over the string of RAF and Army sackings sparked by Government cuts.

An MoD spokesman said: “Members of the Armed Forces are entitled to their beliefs provided their practice does not conflict with our core values and standards.”

TRURO CATHEDRAL, JULY 24 2011, MOMENTS BEFORE GEORGE CAREY
(former archbishop of Canterbury) IS DUE TO GIVE A SERMON.

CAREY MAKES LOTS OF NOISE ABOUT SUPPORTING 'THE FAMILY'.

BUT WILL HE HELP FATHERS????????????

A ‘New Fathers 4 Justice’ activist (Stuart Chilcott from Truro)dressed as a suerhero has this morning  climbed on top of the roof of Truro cathedral at 7am. New Fathers 4 Justice are not associated with, or affiliated to Fathers 4 Justice. He wants to confront GEORGE CAREY and ask why he is not supporting fathers. New F4J were ignored by the former Arch Bishop in December 2009 and since then NEW F4J have planned with secret intelligence on confronting him.
"fathers should get 50/50 status to see their kids after separation or divorce", " there should be an automatic presumption of equal rights for both parents to see their children" said Robin.

Fathers' rights group scales PM's constituency office

7th July 2011

Fathers' rights campaigners dressed as superheroes have climbed on to the roof of Prime Minister David Cameron's constituency offices in Oxfordshire.

Three members of the New Fathers 4 Justice group scaled the office in Witney.

The group said the stunt was in protest at Mr Cameron's attack on absent fathers on Father's Day this year.

Thames Valley Police said the group was holding a banner and using a megaphone to shout messages.

Other members of New Fathers 4 Justice - which has no links to the well-known Fathers for Justice organisation - watched from below.

'Equal status'

The group said the protesters were Roger Crawford, 62, of Meppershall, Bedfordshire, Jeremy Pogue, 50, of Cefn Hengoed, South Wales, and Archit Ssan 46, of London.

A spokesman said the protest marked the start of the group's "CON-DEM(N) CAMERON" campaign" and it was campaigning to change family law to give fathers equal status to see their children on separation or divorce.

On its website, the group said: "As a result of the CON-DEM's coalition's inability to listen or act on the fatherless society crisis, we are continuing our direct action campaign against MPs this week in a campaign called CONDEM(N)."

Earlier, a Thames Valley Police spokesman said: "We have got officers there, it doesn't seem to be causing any disruption to the community other than the noise."

The stunt comes after one of its members confronted Justice Minister Ken Clarke at his home in West Bridgford, Nottingham, at the weekend.

Angry dad 'tried to arrest' Ken Clarke

A DAD tried to "arrest" Justice Secretary Ken Clarke at his home in West Bridgford in a stunt orchestrated by campaign group New Fathers 4 Justice.

Father-of-one Garry Roe, 43, of Heanor, confronted the Rushcliffe MP as he returned to his West Bridgford home from Sainbury's.

Using a megaphone, Mr Roe shouted a barrage of questions at the Cabinet minister before following him up his driveway.

Mr Roe posted a video of his lobbying efforts on the social networking site YouTube.

The video shows Mr Roe shouting: "How come the Family Review has been kept a secret and not put in the media? How come, Mr Clarke, it states quite clearly in that review that fathers will not be given equal or shared rights over their children?

"Isn't that against the law, Mr Clarke? Gender discrimination?"

The YouTube video, which lasts just under three minutes, also shows Mr Clarke telling Mr Roe: "The Norgrove report was not reported because it wasn't regarded as newsworthy, nothing to do with me.

"It's a perfectly open process, there's going to be a report in due course. I don't think you will alter the law in the way you want."

Mr Roe claims he then tried to arrest and handcuff Mr Clarke but was ushered away by Mrs Clarke and neighbours.

Police confirmed they were called to Mr Clarke's address after reports of a man dressed as Batman at the property. Mr Roe has not been arrested.

Speaking on behalf of Mr Roe, New Fathers 4 Justice member Rich Adams, 43, said: "He is a bit embarrassed by the media coverage so far, but he is very pleased with the fact that it is drawing attention to the issue."

New Fathers 4 Justice group promises action against sheriff who jailed David Hawksworth

A controversial fathers' rights group has threatened to protest outside the home of a Dundee sheriff after an activist was jailed last week.

David Hawksworth was sentenced to three months in prison by Sheriff Richard Davidson at Dundee Sheriff Court last week.

New Fathers 4 Justice said it will close some of Scotland's busiest roads, target a golf club and even demonstrate outside Sheriff Davidson's Perthshire home in protest.

Although denied access to his son, Hawksworth had placed 100 balloons outside his Dundee school last year. Sheriff Davidson branded the action "threatening" and "inappropriate" and jailed Hawksworth for harassment.

Members of the group claim Sheriff Davidson's comments to Hawksworth, that he should return to England, were racist.

The group's website states, "Activists are targeting and heading to the home of Sheriff Davidson and his wife Shirley after his racist slur in court on activist Dave Hawksworth.

"Whilst David is in Perth Prison, Blairgowrie Golf Club will also be targeted with direct action. Fathers' rights group New Fathers 4 Justice will close down arterial routes in Scotland ... after activist Dave Hawksworth was jailed for three months in Dundee last week.

"Dave crime was to place 100 balloons outside his sons school on his 8th birthday after being denied access for many years. He was told that he had no business at protesting at his course and clear off back to England, he has not had any direct contact with his son in 7 years."

The statement also claims that Tayside Police had given permission for Hawksworth to place the balloons outside the school.

The force later said the wrong advice was given as it was not aware of the full details of the dispute between Hawksworth and his former partner.

Hawksworth staged a rooftop protest at Dundee Sheriff Court in 2004 at not being allowed to see his son.

Real Fathers For Justice chairman Mike Kelly said online, "It will come as no shock to those within the movement as to how this father has been treated by the authorities, lambasted, racially abused and then hung out to dry in prison alongside murderers and rapists. All he wants to be is a father to his kids."

Sheriff Davidson declined to comment.

A police spokesman said, "Tayside Police are aware of the comments that have been made and will deal with any incident in an appropriate manner."

Activist head for Blairgowrie after Sheriffs racist comments

Activists are targeting and heading to the Blairgowrie home of Sheriff Davidson and his wife Shirley after his racist slur in court on activist Dave Hawksworth.

Whilst Dave is in Perth Prison Blairgowrie Golf Club will also be targeted with direct action

Fathers rights group ‘New Fathers 4 Justice’ will close down arterial routes in Scotland within days after activist Dave Hawksworth was jailed for three months last week in Dundee.

Dave crime was to place 100 balloons outside his sons school on his sons 8th birthday after being denied access for many years. He was told that he had no business at protesting at his court and clear off back to England, he has not had any direct contact with his son in 7 years.

Before he even bought a balloon he had approached Police for permission to tie them around the railings approaching the school"

Of course the Police defended this today by saying when they gave permission, they were not aware of any previous family proceedings, so he had been given incorrect advice

Now his other two children will be also without a dad.

Angry dad's descend on Ken Clarke's West Bridgford home

After David Cameron’s fathers are like drink-drivers comments yesterday it is clear that this government can only see one side of the story and does not want to deal with ‘muppet’ mothers who deny access or break contact orders.

The protest is due to start outside ken Clarke’s house in West Bridgford at Midday. Activist unable to travel that far could also target Cameron’s  cottage home near Witney

David Norgrove’s family law review interim report rejected calls for guaranteed access to children for separating mothers and fathers, effectively leaving the presumption of custody with mothers.

Nothing less than an automatic presumption of equal contact with the children when the parents split as a starting point will do. This will give both parents equal parity of rights to see the children. In short, we want dads to have an equal status....same as Mum!!

New Fathers 4 Justice say “ Fathers have been let down by this Tory led report and its time to take our gloves off, roll up our sleeves and expose this corruption. The promised us a presumption of contact yet we get no real change. Dads are lining up to climb roofs again and cause whatever disruption necessary to highlight  this injustice.

19th June - Fathers Day demo at Ken Clarke's house .

19 June · 12:00 - 18:00

173 Melton Road West Bridgeford Nottingham NG2 6ER

The Ministry Of Justice are as we speak are in the process of doing what they call a " Sweeping review of the Family Justice regime " .... the main reason for this review is to make sure a child has contact with BOTH parents but the M.O.J. have already made it clear that they will NOT give Father's EQUAL rights of contact with their children which means that bitter and twisted mothers will still have complete 100% control over who the child does and does NOT have contact with ! ! !

Which ever way you look at it this is " CHILD ABUSE " , if you are against what the MOJ are proposing to do please join me outside Ken Clarke's house on Fathers Day .

ALL are welcome , Mothers , Fathers , Grandparents etc ..... unlike the MOJ we do not discriminate

Fathers take campaign to city's green

CAMPAIGNERS dressed as superheroes congregated on the city's Cathedral Green to highlight fathers' calls for better access to their children as some of the region's top legal minds attended a service.

The New Fathers 4 Justice members held a peaceful protest while the Legal Sunday Service took place at Exeter Cathedral.

Around 100 judges, magistrates and QCs, many in full robes, took part in a procession from Exeter's Corn Exchange to the cathedral.

The New Fathers 4 Justice campaign group of five wanted to draw attention to perceived injustices by the family courts.

They have no relation to the original Fathers 4 Justice group, which disbanded in 2008.

The protesters said they wanted to see a system where fathers were automatically entitled to contact with their children following a divorce or relationship breakdown.

New Fathers 4 Justice South West co-ordinator Richard Adams, 45, of Bampton, Tiverton, said he thought family courts still favoured mothers in many cases.

"We want fathers to get a fairer deal and family courts to treat both parents equally," he said.

"We dress up as superheros as we believe that every father is a hero. We also like to wear fun costumes so we are not seen as being aggressive.

"Unfortunately, most of the judiciary members didn't really pay much attention when they went into the cathedral, but lots of members of the public have been coming to talk to us."

Mr Adams, a factory worker, had been hoping for a bigger turn-out from New Fathers 4 Justice members.

He said: "Unfortunately, not as many dads could make it as we had hoped as it is half-term and a lot of them have access to their children during this time."

Ex-soldier Paul Baker, 27, recently got in touch with New Fathers 4 Justice as he was having difficulty seeing his child.

"Since splitting with the mother of my child I have found it hard to arrange access," said Paul, who recently moved from Exmouth to Newquay, in Cornwall. "I have found the whole experience quite difficult, especially with all the solicitors. However, New Fathers 4 Justice has really helped me both with advice and support. I really think that the current family laws need revising and I hope someone today pays attention to us."

Two dads take to Merseyside shopping centre roof to protest about access to their children

TWO dads took to the roof of a Merseyside shopping centre this morning to demonstrate about access to children.

The men climbed onto the Stanley Road entrance to the Strand Shopping Centre in Bootle and unveiled a banner.

Traffic was slowed but no roads were closed during what police described as a peaceful protest which began shortly after 7am.

The men said they were angry about how they were treated by social services in Sefton.

Fathers target festival in fight for fairer parenting

Angry dads have vowed to cause bedlam at Glastonbury Festival as part of a fortnight long protest by New Fathers For Justice (NF4J).

The group, which says it is not affiliated with Fathers 4 Justice, will be holding 14 days of protest across Somerset, calling the campaign Somerset Dads' 14 Days of Chaos.

They have warned that a number of their group have tickets for Glastonbury Festival and are looking to take their protest to the festival site.

Their goal is to change the law around child custody and access, so that fathers have the same rights as mothers to see their children after a family breakdown.

Aside from the festival, they have named the Crown Court, family and magistrates courts, as well as Child Support Agency offices, as potential protest sites.

A number of Somerset MPs, including David Heath and Ian Liddell-Grainger, could also be targeted. However, Tessa Munt is being considered off-limits, after she spoke out in support of shared parenting.

NF4J are calling on their MPs to speak out in support of equality for fathers, in order to avoid finding themselves in the midst of a protest.

A spokesman for the group said: "The whole present family court system is a complete pantomime farce at best.

"It's time to take our gloves off, roll up our sleeves and expose this corruption.

"Dads are lining up to climb roofs again and cause whatever disruption necessary to highlight this injustice."

Superhero dads demand the right to see their children

1st June 2011

DADS’ rights campaigners New Fathers 4 Justice dressed as superheroes for a Cardiff demonstration yesterday.

Three members were spotted clad in Captain America, Superman and Batman costumes outside Cardiff’s Holland House hotel. Inside a discussion on the Family Justice Review was taking place.

Spokesman Christian Smith, from Pontyclun, a father of one, claimed they were watched by eight security guards and police officers outside the Newport Road building.

He said: “(Courts) have got the mindset not to allow access for fathers. So fathers are left with a lengthy and expensive battle through the court process, which is what we are opposing.

“There should be a presumption in law that both parents should have access to children unless there could definitely be a detrimental affect to that child.”

The Family Justice Review was set up to examine the family justice system. It was commissioned by the Ministry of Justice, the Department for Education and the Welsh Government.

New Fathers 4 Justice Announce The Direct Action Campaign is To Be Intensified And That The Ladders Are Out !

Tuesday 31st May

New Fathers 4 Justice announced today outside the  Family Justice Review consultation event in Cardiff that the campaign is to be intensified and rooftop protests resumed.

Dressed as Superhero’s the noisy protest began at 12.30. One activist who was inside listening to the Review Panel said "They are only interested in continuing with THE GOOSE THAT LAYS THE GOLDEN EGG rather than putting children rights to have meaningful contact with both parents first'

The governments recent family law review interim report rejected calls for guaranteed access to children for separating mothers and fathers, effectively leaving the presumption of custody with mothers.

New Fathers 4 Justice say that we want justice for fathers after family breakdown but this report is nothing less than a ‘pile of crap’. We have now had Justice Wall’s 'Making contact work' in 2001 and Ian Duncan Smith’s Social Justice Panel telling us about ‘Breakdown Britain’ yet they do nothing but use words to deny fathers equality after family breakdown.

Its is clear that the Judiciary and the Government do not want change so we will have to force it upon them by highlighting this injustice with direct action.

The whole present Family Court system is a complete pantomime farce at best.

People have also called on the Government to take action against the spread of a draconian new type of legal gag called the ‘hyper-injunction’ but people like Ryan Giggs should be more concerned about the secret Family Courts.

‘Secret’ and ‘Court’ are two words which simply should never be allowed together, not in Britain, not in Wales, not in any civilised society. The architect of modern British justice, Jeremy Bentham, said  “In the darkness of secrecy, sinister interest and evil in every shape, have full swing. Where there is no publicity there is no justice. Publicity is the very soul of justice. It keeps the judge himself, while trying, under trial.”

New Fathers 4 Justice say “ Fathers have been let down by this Tory led report and its time to take our gloves off, roll up our sleeves and expose this corruption. The promised us a presumption of contact yet we get no real change.

Fathers' rights dad to air views in city

A PROTESTER is set to dress up as Batman and visit Derby to drum up support for fathers.

Garry Roe, of Heanor, is a member of New Fathers For Justice, a campaign group which demands better rights for fathers who are without custody of their children.

Mr Roe, who has a two-year-old daughter, Ruby, will be in Derby's Market Place next Saturday, handing out flyers promoting the cause.

He said: "We don't mind paying for our children but we should be allowed to see them.

"The Government deems it acceptable to use dads as cashpoints but not to chase the mothers who prevent contact for no good reason."

Recently, Mr Roe has taken part in demonstrations in Nottingham and Birmingham.

Last year he dressed up as Batman to join a protest outside Justice Secretary Ken Clarke's home in West Bridgford, Nottingham.

He spoke to Mr Clarke while another protester filmed the conversation.

A Senior Manger At The Child Support Agency attempted to assault Batman in Nottingham’s market square this afternoon. We have photos (Below) and a witness to the incident. The matter has been reported to the Police.

Batman Garry Roe was holding a humorous peaceful protest at the time in support of equal access for fathers. While Garry was handing out flyers in Nottingham, dressed in his usual Batman costume (to protect his secret identity) he was attacked by a member of the Child Support Agency, who tried to grab his camera from him.

Fathers in 'protest pledge' for justice

12th May 2011

Angry dads from Cornwall vowed to cause chaos on Friday as part of a demonstration by equal rights group ‘New Fathers For Justice’.

The campaigner, known simply as Paul, will be clambering up buildings and rooftops in Truro with his fellow crusaders. The group famously dresses as superheroes such as Batman and Spiderman to get their message across.

Their goal is to change the law around child custody and access, so that fathers have the same rights as mothers to see their children following a family breakdown. Paul said the law was heavily weighted in favour of mothers, meaning they could make life a nightmare for dads trying to spend time with their kids.

"My ex-wife has made my life a living hell by constantly disrupting my arranged time with my son. He's 3, and such a lovely little lad. I love spending time with him when I am allowed.

"I feel I'm fighting a losing battle but I'm not giving up. Why don't fathers get equality after family breakdown?"

Another father said they planned to cause "whatever disruption necessary" to highlight the injustice.

He said: "The main protest is in Truro, but the Eden Project and Jamaica Inn could also be targeted. There has been talk of a putting a superhero parrot on the roof of Jamaica Inn for some time. Expect the unexpected."

A recent family law review report, penned by the Government, rejected calls for guaranteed access to children for dads, according to the activists.

A spokesman described the family court system as a pantomime that exists purely to provide enrichment for lawyers and experts behind closed doors. He said: "Nothing less than an automatic presumption of equal contact with the children when the parents split as a starting point will do. This will give both parents equal parity of rights to see the children.

"In short we want dads to have equal status ... same as mum."

New Fathers 4 Justice activists have targeted well known locations in Cornwall

New Fathers 4 Justice, targeted well known locations last night across Cornwall in the response of the family interim report where it states fathers will not got equal contact to see their children. Known locations targeted were, the A30 flyover, Truro & Bodmin family court buildings, Truro and St Austell Cafcass offices, and also solicitor officers who do not act in the children’s best interest.

Further protests to come across the whole country in the coming days as dads fight back. Family Court hearings are costing the taxpayer millions of pounds in legal aid every year. Lawyers are making an average of £645 million pounds annually from divorcing couples, parents fighting custody battles. The shocking figure works out to £28 for every household in England and Wales.

New Fathers 4 Justice activists fellowship embark on a quest to destroy the present family court system and its evil leader Lord Justice Nicholas Wall

Middle Earth comes to Truro this Friday as Cornwall fathers denied access to their children from the Shadow Realms Role play Society join New Fathers 4 Justice activists at the Truro protest this Friday 13th May

The protest starts at the court this Friday 10am and will then later head over to the offices of the Orc’s (The henchmen of the family courts) yes Cafcass !

The usual superhero’s will also be present. For more details email cornwall@newfathers4justice.info

Salford Dads Banner Protest

A Salford dad has left a message for his children on a block of flats near Mocha Parade after being denied access to his two children.

Dads are lining up to climb roofs again and cause whatever disruption necessary to highlight this injustice. If this means disrupting Manchester, climbing the new BBC press office site or GMEX then we will! Expect the unexpected

The governments recent family law review interim report rejected calls for guaranteed access to children for separating mothers and fathers, effectively leaving the presumption of custody with mothers.

The whole present Family Court system is a complete pantomime farce at best. At worst (and I know many dads experience the worst, it can KILL YOU!) the system shows how corrupt, perverse and deeply prejudiced many of the self-serving actors in that play in it are.

Dads Angry At David Norgrove’s Family Law Review Report

David Norgrove’s family law review interim report today rejected calls for guaranteed access to children for separating mothers and fathers, effectively leaving the presumption of custody with mothers.

This means no change in the present family court system in which You have no rights to see your children in law after separation. The courts will tell you that they are acting in the “child’s best interests” but this is an unfounded claim. There is not a shred of evidence to prove this because nobody has kept any records on the outcomes for children.

New Fathers 4 Justice say “ Fathers have been let down by this Tory sham report and its time to take our gloves off, roll up our sleeves and expose this corruption. They promised us a presumption of contact yet we get no real change. Dads are lining up to climb roofs again and cause whatever disruption necessary to highlight this injustice. If this means disrupting the 2012 Olympics or their preparation then we will!

New Fathers 4 Justice scale Redruth monument

Protestors have scaled the Francis Lord de Dunstanville and Basset Monument on Carn Brea at Redruth to highlight their concerns over the present family law system.

The trio, from the New Fathers 4 Justice group say they angry MP's still refuse to give fathers equality, and a presumption of contact after family breakdown. Camborne dad Wayne Prior said: “Fathers are being made redundant in the family courts. “As one dad said to me recently, I used to be a dad, now I've been made redundant and instead of a redundancy package, I now have to pay through the nose for the privilege of not seeing my kids.”

Promote Equality After Family Breakdown - Support New Fathers 4 Justice

PROTEST DADS SCALE TRURO COURT

FATHERS RIGHTS Protestors scaled Truro Crown and County Court today to protest for equal rights(Monday).

Truro gardener Lee Hall, Wayne Pryor from Camborne, and a man who refused to be identified other than as Chris, also from Camborne, climbed to the top of the building dressed as superheroes.

The protestors foxed security and staged a half-hour long protest to highlight their claim that fathers are overtly discriminated against in the ‘family’ court system.

The group, one of various branches supporting the original campaign set up by Matt O’Connor five years ago, said their protest went down well with the public.

Father of two Lee said: “We found we had quite a lot of support and we’ve got our point across so we’ll carry on the same tracks.

“’Family’ law is evil – there is no other word for it – and we would ask anyone, man, woman or child, who wants to see an end to it to join our campaign.”

Todays Truro protest was the latest in a spate of activity in the county by anti ‘family’ law protestors.

In January two large hay bales were turned into models of unhappy-looking children in a field along the Hayle bypass and the words ‘Children Need Fathers’ inscribed in foot high letters along the side of a large trailer.

The local newspaper the West Briton – which shares office with family law firm Foot Anstey and whose editor Richard Best was recently pictured with the firms senior partner John Westwells – apparently failed to notice.

Local man Mr Hall told Cornwall Community News today that he was fighting a court system that only lets him see his children for two hours a week.

The gardener, who dressed as Batman for the demo, said: “The family court is extremely biased and I’ve been shocked by the whole system.

“You are treated like a criminal because you have to go to court when all you want to do is see your own children.

“It takes time, money and effort and it’s wrong: I was stopped from seeing my children for an entire year of their lives for no reason.

“Even though I did all the right things that the Government suggest you do – such as put my name on my child’s birth certificates – I was still treated like a criminal.

“Two hours supervised contact is all I get: both parents should have equal time and contact with their kids.

“In the twelve months I didn’t see them I worried my kids would resent me for not being around – when it wasn’t my fault, it was the fault of the system.

“I think it’s been happening to fathers for years and children haven’t necessarily known about it.

“I’ve no criminal record, I’m a perfectly responsible parent and I’m being punished for doing the right thing.

“It’s the lawyers who wind things up and prolong the case as long as they can. My kids just want to see me as much as possible.

“All the family lawyers and the Cafcass Officers are the same they’re deeply bigoted and biased and they have no grasp of basic human rights or notion of equality.

“In fact when Cafcass realised we were going to hold this demo, they wrote to the courts to try and get a court order to ban me from demonstrating.

“They weren’t able to do that – because in the real world, not the one they inhabit behind the closed doors of the family courts – they can’t stop me demonstrating.

“I have a right to peaceful protest.”

“The letter is there in black and white and it’s typical: everything they do is secret and so they have no idea of democracy or justice.”

Lee, 31, who is a full time gardener for Trewithen Gardens, added: “If the public saw half of what goes on behind closed family court doors the whole system would collapse.”

“We hope that each and every parent – mothers, fathers, grandfathers – gets fair proper contact with their children and there is no family court.

“If a couple splits up there should be an assumption children have a natural right to see their mum and their dad for the same period of time.”

Lee’s mum Mandy Hall, a housewife, from Malabar, also went on the relatively small but vocal demo.

She explained: “Lee only gets to see his children of two and four once a week for two hours on a Saturday at our house.

“Unfortunately in the courts what monkey says monkey does in the courts and whatever the children’s mum asks for she gets.

“It’s thoroughly wrong: it takes two to tango and you need two parents to bring up a child.

“Every Saturday when it’s time for them to go the children cry that they want to stay with their Dad and that’s heart-breaking to see.

“It’s been dragging on for a year and a half now. There should be simple, equal rights and children should be allowed to see their mum and dad for the same time, 50/50.

“The way it is at the minute a father has no rights: at the moment a father has their rights removed, they have to go to court just to ask to see their own children.
