Hi, my name is Mark Harris, I am a divorced Dad with three daughters living in Devon. I went to the UK family court's what is believed to be a UK record 133 times to see children that wanted to see me, post divorce.
I appeared before 33 different judges, ranging from Part Time Deputy District Judges here in Plymouth to two Presidents of the Family Division, Sir Stephen Brown and Dame Elizabeth Butler-Sloss.

Not one of these 33 Judges would enforce my various contact orders upon the mother. Instead, they chose to take the various contact orders away when I insisted on enforcement. Time and again, they replaced my visiting and staying contact times with 'indirect contact orders', which are as meaningless as they sound. (you can write to your kids so many times a month, year, etc)
Unbelievably, in 1997 Judge WILSONS' response (third left, above) to my ex wife, when she was breaking the contact order and her new boyfriend was found to have been abusing my children was to jail me for contempt of court. That contempt being waving to my children outside of the allocated contact times that the mother refused to comply with.
Yes, trying to keep in touch with much loved children when the allocated contact times were not happening got me sent down. (Unfortunately for fathers everywhere, WILSON has since been promoted to the Appeal Court). Four months imprisonment, of which I served 45 days at HMP Exeter as a civil prisoner.
On the back of this I set up a protest group called DADS, where a number of us fathers in Devon and the West Country started picketing the homes of various family court judges. The movement soon grew into a nationally known organisation.

Some months later, after some intermittent contact with a couple of my kids and many court hearings on, I was once again jailed for contempt of court.
In 2001, JUDGE MUNBY (above, first left) also jailed me for trying to see my kids between allocated contact times that were not happening as yet again the childrens' mother refused to comply with yet another raft of contact orders. Waving AND speaking to my children this time-so ten months prison.
The mothers contempt for all contact orders, orders made in the best interests of the children at the time, as always, went completely ignored and went totally unpunished, and of course, the Judges changed 'the Best interests of the Child' for my kids to see me into 'best not seeing me' each time to coincide with the mothers' intransigence, rather than enforce anything upon her.
The second time I did 84 days in HMP Pentonville as a civil prisoner.
Then Matt O'Connor appeared on the protest scene and formed Fathers 4 Justice and I was a founder member. I proudly took part in a number of their stunts and protests around the UK...

Love him or loath him, and I am somewhere in between the two viewpoints, Matt O'Connor changed (with the assistance of the wider F4J membership) the then public and media perception that the family courts worked to one of wide acknowledgement since that they don't; that they are bias, corrupt and fail children and families everywhere.
EVEN JUDGES HAVE SINCE COME FORWARD SAYING THE FAMILY COURTS DON'T WORK. (see JUDGES COLERIDGE AND MUNBY below, DAILY MAIL articles).
But unfortunately, Munby, Coleridge and the others still REFUSE to enforce anything upon a mother, despite plenty of laws in place to do so.
The laws ARE THERE to make meaningful contact work in every single case, but the Judiciary won't use them upon contemptious mothers.

I was sad to see the F4J campaign end-but it has-so the wider campaign for justice in family courts must go on.
My own case ended in 2003 when my daughters got old enough to vote with their feet; they simply walked out on their mother and turned up at my house, refusing to go back!
Then the same Judge (COLERIDGE) who had continued the banning order on me from even speaking to my kids outside of the contact order (which the mother was still flouting) simply FAXED me a Residence order while the girls were unpacking their bags (no court hearing).
Coleridge simply phoned my house, spoke to each child for about two minutes each and that was it, all over. Ten years of absolute hell, 129 days in Prison, over one million pounds of taxpayers money wasted all ended by the actions of three little girls then aged 11, 13 & 16 and their refusal to accept any more court issued nonsense.
The kids have lived here ever since.
Even national TV took up the story (see Richard & Judy link) along with several national and regional papers.
Local paper takes up the story too; it was a TEN year battle, not six!
